SUMMARY:Historic Diorama at Machias Train Station
DESCRIPTION:Twelve (12) members of a Museum Management Class at the University of Maine at Machias\, led by Professor Bernie Vinzani\, have created an exact scale diorama of Machias historic train station.  The 120 year old station was built in 1898 and the diorama illustrates the time period of 1950. \nReception will be held at the train station Wednesday\, May 23rd from 5-6 p.m.  Students and Vinzani will be explaining the diorama and the process of creating a museum quality piece.  Members of the Station 1898 Railroaders\, a hobby club looking to establish a railroad museum at the station\, will also be on hand to welcome new members and provide information on their project.  Vinzani said the students used historic maps and photographs to recreate the station.  “There are lots of details\,” he said\, “including the storage shed\, the semaphore\, true location of railroad tracks.”  He said the display is HO scale and includes the two box cars that are currently at the station. \nThe station is currently the home of the Machias Chamber of Commerce and many donated/loaned historical items are displayed in the station.  The public is always welcome to visit.  For more information\, call the Chamber at 255-4402. \n

DESCRIPTION:The  Town of Machias will hold a Special Town Meeting on January 17\, 2018 at the Machias Tele-Business Center in the first floor conference Room 2 at 6:00 pm to act on the following articles: \nARTICLE 1:  To elect a moderator to preside at said meeting \nARTICLE 2:  To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Board of Selectmen to borrow up to $250\,000 to be used as matching funds for improvements at the Machias Valley Airport.  These funds will help secure another $250\,000 in State funds and more than $4.4 million in Federal funds.  These funds will be used to re-construct the runway\, install fuel services\, and construct hangar space at the existing airport.  The Airport  Committee will work to obtain donations which will be used to offset the loan costs.  The Machias Board of Selectmen and Budget Committee Recommend.\n \nARTICLE 3: To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Machias Board of Selectmen to expend up to $16\, 500 from the Un-designed Fund Balance for the purchase of a used snow plow truck body has dropped through frame.  The Machias Board of Selectmen and Budget Committee Recommend. \nNOTICE:  The Board of Selectman’s meeting from January 10th has been re-scheduled for January 17th following the Special Town Meeting at the Machias Tele-Business Center.
